  1. Justin Goff says:

OH my god, I sound like the most boring dude in the world!

Damn I need to up the intensity for phone interviews!

    -Justin

  2. Marie says:

This is an awesome workout, thanks for sharing!

  3. Nick Coumbis says:

Simple stuff but for the average punter (which most of my boot campers) are… I find its far more effective to keep it simple.

I wasn’t blown away Brian (like I have been by some of your previous posts) but I know you’re on the money and pretty much most all things you produce are quality.

    Luv your work!

  4. henry says:

Great work Brian, truly well done.
You put out good business and you will be successful, Thank you for the info and inspiration

  5. JC says:

    Brian,

Those are some great exercises. I have been following your posts for a couple of years and I haven’t been disappointed. Most of the trainers still think old school and I enjoy that you step outside the box. Keep up the good work and continue to keep things real.

  6. Ryan says:

    Brian,

I recently stumbled upon your work and have found many great techniques that have added even more excitement to my programs….

I found this video to have some new ideas which are great…BUT –

Like most sites I have found all the material (great material) is aimed towards those that are not carrying an extra 40+lbs in the front.

Any chance we may see something directed towards those in the infant stages of body re-composition?

  7. Brian Devlin says:

Thank you Ryan. Of course I would be more than happy to include content for those who may be in the infant stages of body re-composition. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

    Brian

  8. Eka says:

    Brian,

Not bad! I have seen many of those exercises and have incorporated into routines for my clients. I am in the process of growing and further developing my business. This is so helpful!

Justin does need to sound more enthusiastic! His audio is totally on track! I want to also put a website together, but I am thinking about a good domain name – that is the tough part!

    Thank you for posting!

  9. Hey man. I’ve got all your videos, so the 35 exercises you showed us was nothing new to me. Maybe the people who wanted to see it, don’t have any of your stuff, and they want as much as they can for free. But, you said it right in the email. Running a boot camp, or a business, boils down to way more important things, than just exercises. I think you’re doing an increadible job. I hope to be able to share with you some of my stuff one day and let you look at my website when its built. Like i said man, i think your increadible. I’m sure you are familiar with Paul Chek… One thing he always tries to communicate is that “there is no replacement for gnosis; which is knowledge sharing and learning from each other, a unity.” As personal trainers, we are a unit; and we should become a stronger unit through knowledge sharing. I know you’re doing just that. Keep doing what your doing. Like i said, one day I hope to share with you. Your awesome. God Bless!

    Zach,
    Love your website dude! lol
Hey man just let me know if you want some help getting set up
Make sure you listen to our audio on Web Design!

  10. Julie says:

Great workout, but not exactly for the more advanced boot camper. I don’t run a boot camp, but I attend one. Do you have something for someone already well advanced in a high-intensity workout and looking for new ideas? When I first ran across your website, just recently by the way, I was very impressed as you showed some workouts I’ve never done. However, when I put some of them to the test they were pretty mild for me. It took many, many reps before I felt fatigue. I figure if it takes 50 reps to feel fatigue then I’m doing a workout that is too easy for me.

  11. Brian Devlin says:

    Hi Julie,

Thanks for your great feedback. Of course you must understand I hold back my best exercise techniques for those coveted members of my DVD club. I think you could really benefit from the Bare Bones Boot Camp system (www.metabolicmania/barebones.html) or Core Salvation DVD http://www.metabolicmania.com. Please let me know which exercise technique took you 50 reps to feel fatigue…I’d be curious to know.

    Thanks,
    Brian

  12. Brian Devlin says:

    Eka,

What kind of website? What would be your niche topic you want to cover. Please dont say Fitnes. Remember to be more specific and really think about who you want to reach. Let me know that and I would be more than happy to help you with your domain name

    Brian

  13. Graham says:

There was some new stuff in here and a lot of stuff that was a good reminder. I appreciate this website and the time you put into it. Thanks

  14. Denise Baker says:

Hey Brian I run an advanced class two mornings a week – for advanced folks and as most said this stuff is nothing new but I’d be shocked that most could not get a pretty high intensity workout doing these moves. Seriously, I’m 46 and just did a crossfit challenge and blew the #’s out of the water for those in my age group and those in the youngest group and I know if I push myself right I will get a kick ass workout from this. I’m gonna use this stuff at my 5 am class in the morning and let you know how we fare. I don’t blame you for keeping the crazy stuff that’s different in your DVD collection. Thanks for saving me from getting up at 3:30 to plan class!!!! I also run a bootcamp for beg to advanced on saturdays . . . Also I’ve watched this girl who’s in great shape do your craziest workouts and this one seemed to still kick her butt. Thanks and anything similar and a new move or two would be great!

    Denise

  15. Brian Devlin says:

    Ok Denise,

I really like this comment and Ill tell you why. I am with all of you when you say this stuff is not new. Thats just it!

This is what separates good trainers from great trainers. The US Navy SEALS are probably some of the craziest fitness freaks out there!

They can do and overcome just about anything but they use basic stuff like pushups, hand stands, crawling and lunges. The difference is that their training is constantly being TWEAKED.

It is changing in intensity, duration, frequency, tempo, skeletal planes, rom, heart rate etc… The point im trying to make is every trainer on this page could sell out their bootcamps with just these 35 exercises!

You guys dont need to constantly look for new stuff. I applaud you for doing so but the basics of human movement such as…the 7 primal movements or the different types of energy systems and muscular contractions will produce ongoing change and continuous challenge.

Try subtracting a leg or an arm from the equation. Its not about turning your campers into contortionists or making them question your sanity. Thats just EGO!

It is about creating and fostering an environment where you produce CONTINUOUS ADAPTIVE CHANGE in the body. If their bodies are continually adapting to different tweaks and demands placed on standard primal movements they will be SCREAMING your name and begging you for more.

The exercises are not what makes you. It is the passion and the science behind your programming. I love your feedback!!! and of course this post is only my humble opinion.

I have set this blog up to bring a ton of trainers together and to start talking to each other. Its free and its getting a lot of chatter on the internet. Its a place where you come to be better without feeling like you have to do anything.

The only thing I ask that you do is COMMENT. I dont care if you say ACHOOOO just let us know your out there and let us here your wants and desires for your career and for yourself. Im just a guy that is here to help.

Thanks to all of you who had the guts or just took the time to say Hi or Brian you suck…haha just kiddin!

Now we still need more comments!

I want to hear from you!

Than you Denise for allowing me to Rant :)

    Brian

  16. ian says:

i like this stuff, good stuff for a boot camp, i am not a trainer just love to train, i train a few days a week with a lot of weight, so i like your boot camp ideas for my off days to get my cardio up, love the jump squat, i have been doing a jump squat off the ground onto a platform, than another jump squat on top of the platoform, also going for distance when jumping on the platform,

dont like the punching drill, seems too relaxed, i would add more power behind the punches,

one of my all time favorites exorcises though is just to pick up something heavy up and walk with it, i have never been so sore in so many muscles the next day,
    peace
    ian

  17. Phil says:

    Achooo!
    (only kidding).
Thanks for showcasing all these exercises – I’m a big fan. I run a very informal bootcamp (it’s between friends, no payment given or received). We’re mostly middle-aged but we’re enthusiastic keep-fit types looking to get rid of the belly fat. The key for me has been finding body-weight exercises to use in the park (I now have a ‘database’ of over 200 exercises and the most equipment we’ve ever used is a speed-ladder and skipping ropes) and the essence has been variety. Many of the exercises we use have come from you, so for that I say a big THANKS.

  18. shanaz says:

Great basic excersises that people crave in a boot camp. I use some of these, but little tweaks to them that you have shown are amazing!

I have enjoyed all your ideas and videos and my clients are going to miss me when I soon move to another city.
Can’t wait for the next post.

  19. Simon S says:

Always a great inspiration, nothing new, but at least Brian hasn’t forgotten the basics. So many PT are lost without a gym full of kit. For the industry to continue to develop we need creative, enthusiastic, lateral thinking and knowledgeable trainers that encourage and give clients the knowledge to train at home, on their travels and at their club with or without a PT at hand. We are failing if our clients don’t have a strong personal hand of work-outs to chose from, to challenge their bodies in different ways and stave off boredom.

  20. Iain Strachan says:

All good stuff dude, good to see the stability exercises in there, you are doing a great job.

  21. Curtis says:

Outstanding material! As mentioned, for those in the beginning stages that carry a much heavier “load” would be great. Like I said though, your material is top notch – love it!

  22. jeff says:

    brian

Great work! The stuff is simple but it works. If you mix in some harder stuff it will work for all levals. Thanks and great work!

    jeff

  23. Anna Shuffler says:

Bet she was tired! Nice cardio ideas for any type of class or with clients. Love your stuff, every think about cue cards or something portable other than dvds?

  24. Anna Shuffler says:

Bet she was tired! She was working it! Great cardio ideas for any class type or clients! Love your stuff. Do you offer anything like cue cards or something more portable than dvds?

  25. Luka Hocevar says:

    Brian,
great and useful content. From the exercises to the info on marketing!
I love checking back to see if you have posted anything new on here. Keep up the good work and giving out useful tips that can be implemented right away.

Great workouts!!!! I am starting with the basics…

    Thanks for the previews.

  27. JayW says:

    Yo Brian

As usual, your videos are great and refreshing. Keep on making them and i’ll keep on buying them! Looking for you to come out with a series on program designing. Is that coming in the near future?

    JayW

  28. Iain says:

Brian! You’re training routines are absolutely awesome!! I’d like to see more killer
“Water Ball/PVC Tube” exercises to kick some “Core Butt”, and toning ideas for upper body, either with or without weights. My daughter lives in Charleston with her Fiance, It would be awesome to visit your gym and spend at least one (1)day training. What programs do you have to offer? I also run a gym and like you approach, we do much of the same types of exercises but you have incredible ideas which I’d like to incorporate . Thank You so much, Iain

  29. Joanna Tinsley says:

I don’t know if you have a lot of help (secretary, web organizer, newsletter person, email person, or strictly self organized). I think there are times I think of so many things that I would like to do and create like a quarterly newsletter, monthly calendar, thank you cards, birthday cards, flyers, etc. and end up not getting a single thing done. Could you please give me some advice on this kind of matter? Would this be called lazy, not computer smart, not organized, or what? HELP!

    Joanna Tinsley

  30. Ellen says:

    Hey Brian,
Fantastic Workout! I love that these are all “familiar” moves that people have sort of seen before because it makes it easier to let people know ahead of time what to do so we can keep everyone moving. Better workout that way! If there is any negative, and I stress “if” I would say that this workout does not necessarily lend itself to older, heavier people who have limitations ie., cant really do squats and jumps, etc. But otherwise..Fantastic! Thankyou so much!

  31. Andres P. says:

    Great tools

  32. Maria says:

    Hey Brian

I am a personal trainer and my main thing is outdoor bootcamp. I have a variety of equipment that focuses mainly on speed, agility and strength. I mainly use alot of the same type of exercises that you show here and I have got a lot of the ideas from being one of your followers for the past year…so thank you for that. I find that my bootcamp always has a variety of levels of fitness in them so I am constantly challenged to modify the exercises I do. I always give the middle difficulty level and then show how to make it easier or harder and allow them to “pick their pain” So when talking about an easier level for heavier people I would encourage trainers to show a simple modification for those that need it.Eg.Take the hop out of the squat jump and step it forward instead. I find that by constantly showing modifications (easier or harder) clients feel like they are still a part of what everyone else is doing and they never feel singled out…this has always been successful for me and I hope it can be useful for other trainers as well.
Thanks for all that you do and the knowledge you share….you are an inspiration.

    Maria

  33. Brian,

I love all of your content that you put out. I see stuff in your videos that I’ve never seen before and believe me I use it my camps too.

    Great job man!

  34. mike says:

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for all you do to take the fitness business to another level.

I would like to see more exercise combinations
ex. DB Renegade Row – Clean & Press (set DB’s down beside legs) – Hand Walkouts – Pushup.
With your creativity you could come up with some killer exercise sequences.

Just a thought, and I love the DVD’s that you send out each month. Lots of great information.

  35. nick says:

    Brian:

Great work and video. I don’t see a problem with your material for an advanced person either by just slapping some more wight in their hands or on their back. Which I’m quite sure you do! :-0 All I say is you better have taken the young lady out to dinner after the workout demo. I’ll send you some my Simply Savage Bootcamp workouts in a few days to share manuevers….Regards & God Meeting You,
    Nick Savage

  36. Rambodoc says:

Thanks for a great post. I enjoy your posts, and have bookmarked your site. I would like some functional/kinesiological discussion on some movements, like how and why a particular exercise or movement targets a group of muscles and where people go wrong. Take the back exercises, and you can really do a great job of demonstrating/teaching kinesiology. What say?

  37. Ade says:

Brian you are a sick dude…i love the variety and challenge. Keep it up !
    Thanks

    Ade MD

  38. Steve Alford says:

    Brian,
Just received your Adaptive Blast video and have already designed one routine and it was very metabolic and challenging.I also suggest to everyone to join your dvd club. Education is very inportant in this bussiness.
    Steve Alford N.A.S.M.-CPT

  39. Katie says:

Great stuff once again! I love taking it back to the basics because sometimes we forget how challenging and how effective those exercises truly are!

I was also wondering if you did have something on program design? Keep up the good work!

  40. Dayna says:

I’m a 42 yr woman in Phx- worked out with my own personal trainer 2 yrs ago & fell in love with training/working out. I started my own small pt/boot camp biz last yr and the classes have become very successful. I found Synergy on Youtube while I was looking for new ideas and absolutley loved the way Brian ran his boot camps. I thought I’d be limited by what I could do b/c I’m not training in a gym, but with these exercises – my clients are challenged every single day.I’m constantly looking for new material b/c I change the workouts every day- nothing is ever the same. My classes are all women and we’re all in our 40’s and in great shape and I can tell you- these kick their ass! They love it because it’s different and they are definately seeing results. I’m starting to take business away from a very popular bootcamp studio in my neighborhood b/c these workouts are always challenging and different. We add weights to many of the moves- which makes them that much harder. I do the workout with my clients so I know firsthand how brutal they are. These gals aren’t very happy that I’ve joined Brian’s Inner Circle b/c they know that the hardest moves we do are from Synergy. I would love to have more cardio-driven workouts. The most hated move we have from you is the one leg in the air, hopping on your hands across the floor with the foam rollers. It’s now been named “HOP #@ITS” in my class. Please give us more of those types of moves as they are the hardest and a great full body exercise. I need to constantly keep it fresh- and I will try to use the concept of “taking an arm out- or taking a leg out- or adding wieghts etc.” But please keep all the info coming because you’ve helped me make this bootcamp a success.
I have yet to order DVD’s from you – can you tell me the best DVD that has advanced moves but not with gym equipment? We use weights, bands, ex & med balls, Bosu, frisbees (for sliding) and foam rollers. And even though we’re in our 40’s we like to keep it advanced. Thank you for sharing your info- it’s been the greatest thing I have to build my business.
    Dayna

  41. Justine says:

    Brian,

Love the exercises, can’t wait to start my bootcamp and implement everything I have seen so far. Thanks, for your dedication towards fitness, and providing amazing drills for us to use in our business. Keep it up!

    Justine

  42. Lois England says:

Thank you for sharing your ideas. As a trainer, I have so many exercises jammed into my head it is nice to have a visual reminder and suggestions. I will only train 3 or 4 in a “bootcamp” setting. Form and past (and present) injuries are my biggest obstacles with clients. Most of my clients (all women)enjoy the commradery but have significant differences in fitness level or ability. Several times I have felt that I have implemented 2 different workouts because of these differences. Thank you Brian

    Lois England
P.S would love to put you and Tony Horton together and see what happened.

  43. Chris Rose says:

    Great video! Thanks!

  44. M. Zsuzsa says:

    Great one Brian:)
I am using some of them in my work but some others were new:)Thx.
    Keep up the good work:)

    God Bless: Zsuzsa

  45. Michele says:

    Hi Brian,
I am a Group X instructor who is gearing up to take the ACSM Personal Trainer Certification. I found your video’s on youtube while looking for unique and different moves, and I love all that you have put out there. I currently run a kickboxing bootcamp & i’ve incorporated some of your moves into my class. The members LOVE it and love the fact they can take many of these basic moves and do them either at home, or on vacation, because they do not need a lot of gym equipment.
Thanks for sending out all of these “teasers”, they inspire me to raise the bar every week for my clients, and it shows in my numbers!
Take care, keep up the good work, and thank you!
    Michele

  46. Angie Cupp says:

    Hi Brian -

I always love your stuff! I too have that video with these exercises but don’t mind seeing them again. As someone stated earlier, I also would like to see you take a less fit individual and see the change in them over time vice someone who is already fit. That would be a great DVD.

Also, I wanted to say how much I love you new DVD Adaptive Blast training! Its great that you put a “system” out this time vice exercise ideas. I will definitly be using this. How can I get a phone consult with you for myself, not for a business angle?

    Thanks so much!

    Angie Cupp

  47. good stuff! …thought I commented but guess i forgot…:) recommend your stuff to my Fitness Bootcamp Inner Circle members

  48. Sarah Shamek says:

    Hey Brian,

  49. Andres P. says:

Great information on the Metabolic shoulder exercises. I have used the prone turtles and they work nicely with the NASM core movement.

    Thanks,
